“Thank you for finding my daughter such a wonderful tutor. She has been very professional, and my daughter has enjoyed working with
her.”

— Faye S., Monrovia

Is Summer tutoring right for your child?

Inspire In-Home Tutoring provides tutoring both for students who are enrolled in Summer school, and those who are on Summer vacation. Students benefit from Summer tutoring both by reviewing past material and learning new material. Whether your student wants to keep up with her skills, or learn something new, your Inspire tutor will be prepared to tailor each session to your needs. Summer tutoring might benefit your child if he or she:

  • Required tutoring during the school year. If your student worked with a tutor during the school year, continuing to do so over the Summer can provide a sense of continuity, and can help to maintain newly-learned skills.
  • Had a difficult time with the last semester, or during the school year. If your child had a rough year, having a Summer tutor is a great way to be proactive about getting this coming school year off to a great start.
  • Complains of being bored. Young minds need to be stimulated. Kids go from a regimented schedule of classes, homework and tests, to a final bell and weeks of sleeping in and hours to fill. Kids will find something to do during the Summer — no question about that! Spending even an hour or two per week with a tutor over the Summer can give your child a productive focus.
  • Is interested in learning something new, such as a language. Summer is a relaxed time. Kids don't have all the pressures of school to deal with. So Summer is the perfect time to start learning a new language, or to get a head start on a subject your child will begin in the fall.
  • Has test anxiety. If your child worries about exams, he is not alone. Most people have some degree of test anxiety — Tests usually comprise a large part of a student's grade, and it's only natural to worry how you will do. However, when test anxiety begins to interfere with class progress, having a tutor can help your child to be better prepared for exams, and to feel more confident. "Studying for a test" is not the main goal of tutoring. We take an inclusive approach that includes building a strong foundation of the subject matter, improving study skills, and more!
  • Will be taking a subject that is unfamiliar next semester. Speaking of anxiety, there are few things that cause more anxiety than beginning something new. If this is your child's third English class, he probably knows what to expect. But what if next semester he will be taking History for the first time? The concepts will likely be completely foreign to him. Having a tutor preview the subject can give your child the confidence he needs when class begins.
  • Is enrolled in Summer school. Students who are enrolled in Summer or year-round schools benefit from tutoring just as students do during the traditional school year. When you call to discuss your student's needs, we can talk about the type and amount of tutoring that can best benefit your child.
  • Is demonstrating a lack of focus or motivation, or has had changes in behavior that could be a result of academic difficulties. Academic struggles can manifest themselves in many ways. When a student is struggling academically, you might notice a lack of self-esteem or motivation. Or your child may act out from frustration.
  • Is homeschooled and wants to work with a tutor over the Summer. Homeschoolers enjoy certain flexibility in regards to their schedules, as well as the pace at which work is completed. If your homeschooler will be working on her schoolwork during the Summer, we can provide a tutor to guide her through it.
  • Wants to review what was taught during the previous school year. This is a great idea! Human nature is to have a tendency to "finish" something, and to move on. If you go to the trouble to learn something, you might as well remember it, right?
  • Will be starting a new school. Beginning a new school in the fall can present many challenges for kids. If you are moving, that alone can cause stress. Add to that the fact that your child will be in an unfamiliar building with a new schedule, new rules and will be meeting new teachers and making new friends. All this on top of the fact that the classes themselves will be new. Your child will have to get used to new class structures, new books and new teachers' styles. A good tutor can help ease this transition.
  • Brought home a report card with grades that were lower than you had hoped. Just because your child's grades haven't been stellar in the past, doesn't mean they can't be improved. Give him a head-start this Summer, to help get next year off to a great start!
  • Has a difficult time completing homework in a timely manner, or doing it correctly. Investing time with a tutor can drastically reduce the amount of time spent on homework, and increase the accuracy of assignments submitted in class.
  • Received a recommendation from a teacher that tutoring could be helpful. Your child's teachers have their students' best interests at heart. If your child's teacher has recommended a tutor, it is something you should seriously consider.
  • Does best with at least a somewhat structured schedule (as opposed to having several weeks of "free time.") Most people need structure in their lives. This doesn't mean your student has to attend hours of class each day to be productive. Kids need breaks, just like the rest of us. Meeting with a tutor on a regular basis over the Summer can provide enough structure to help keep your child focused on academics, and ease the transition into the school year.
  • Has asked for a tutor, or for some help with his schoolwork. If your child is asking for help, there is a reason. Beginning tutoring during the Summer can help to boost confidence. In most cases, your child can continue working with his tutor throughout the school year, ensuring that his progress continues.

Since everyone's situation is different, please contact us to discuss whether Summer tutoring can benefit your child. We will be happy to take the time to discuss this with you, and answer any questions you may have.
